The Team / The Driver

VANHAUEN RACING is more than just a racing outfit — it’s a collaboration of specialists united by a passion for performance and Porsche heritage. At the centre of this revival is Phil Brough of Brough Motorsport, whose engineering vision and racecraft were instrumental in transforming what was a rough track-day ‘has-been’ into a ‘once-again’ competitive race car. With decades of experience and a reputation for reliability, Phil turned the 903 into a machine capable of holding its own against modern rivals.

Powering the heart of 903 is the work of Dave Rowe at Electronic Performance Systems. With a career steeped in high-level engine management and Motec mastery, Dave’s ability to integrate modern electronics with vintage performance laid the foundation for a robust, supercharged power unit. His innovations in ignition and boost control brought consistency and power to an engine now operating far beyond its original limits.

Critical to the engine’s long-term durability and performance was Russel Lewis of RSR Engineering. A former Porsche Technician of the Year, Russel’s legacy in air-cooled Porsche development is unmatched. His rebuild and reinforcement of the 3.2 Carrera engine and 915 gearbox provided the mechanical confidence to fully exploit the car’s upgraded capabilities — lap after lap, season after season.

Together, this trio of specialists has given 903 not only performance, but purpose. VANHAUEN RACING is built on respect for heritage, belief in ingenuity, and a drive to go racing — properly, competitively, and with pride.

At the wheel sits Kenn van Hauen, whose vision and perseverance brought this transatlantic Porsche project to European tracks. From discovering the car on Craigslist in Pennsylvania to rebuilding it alongside Phil, Kenn’s journey has been one of grit, learning, financial heartache, and relentless determination. As a latecomer to motorsport, he earned his race license through rigorous training and competitive spirit — culminating in launching his racing career across iconic British and international circuits. With an eye for heritage and a commitment to Porsche air-cooled performance, Kenn leads VANHAUEN RACING from both behind the scenes and from the driver’s seat.

The journey to owning a competitive Porsche race car — and to racing itself — has been anything but straightforward. It’s been long, technically complex, often costly, and at times laced with genuine fear. And yet, through every mechanical failure, every financial setback, every hour of doubt, there was always someone in my corner.

To Sabine, thank you for being my quiet strength. You stood by me when this project seemed impossibly far-fetched, joined me trackside even when the weather and the odds weren’t kind, and celebrated every milestone like it was your own. That kind of support can’t be measured — only felt, and forever remembered.

To our three daughters — Isabel, Mimi, and Chantel — your go-for-it attitude, curiosity, and cheers from the pit wall have kept this dream alive. Thank you for believing in me, even when I doubted myself.

To my dad, whose reminders to be careful never go unheard, and whose belief in measured progress has been a grounding force.

To my brother Klavs, thank you for sticking close during the many moments that tested me. Your presence through the lows made the highs that much more meaningful.

And finally, to the many friends and colleagues who cheered me on, asked the right questions, offered to help, or simply followed the story — your support helped turn this distant dream into something real, and unforgettable.
