Generations of Motorsport Passion

Motorsport runs deep in the Brough family. Phil’s grandfather was an Alfa Romeo dealer and Brooklands racer, while his father, a dedicated club-level Morgan driver, was crowned Herts County Auto and Aero Club champion — beating well-funded teams with little more than grit and determination.

Phil’s own racing journey began in the shadow of personal tragedy, after losing his father in a road accident at age 13. Following a degree and early work helping to rebuild a vintage 750 race car, Phil found himself drawn to the world of motorsport. Despite financial challenges, he made his racing debut in the 924 Porsche Championship thanks to success in his rapid prototyping business.

When funding ran short, Phil became a weekend warrior — running client race cars while training as a race instructor. He has spent decades instructing at racing schools and experience days, and has raced a wide variety of cars including early 911s, 993 Supercups, 996 GT3s and multiple BMWs.

His career highlights include three appearances at the Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone and a standout international run in an MX-5 at Virginia International Raceway in the U.S.

Phil’s passion isn’t measured in podiums — though he’s had his share — but in a lifelong dedication to the spirit of club racing. Phil's return to competition in 2024 with his striking 924S in the CALM All Porsche Trophy saw him claim a class podium on debut at Thruxton — a result he backed up later in the season with another podium at Croft. In 2025, he’ll tick off a long-held ambition with a competitive debut at Spa-Francorchamps — a circuit he knows intimately from hundreds of instructor laps.

We’re proud to have Phil’s talent, commitment and vast experience as part of the VANHAUEN RACING team. Most workshops can bolt a car together, but it takes someone like Phil @ Brough Motorsport to make it race competitively and reliably, season after season. The 903 is Phil's work more than anyone else’s — and if gratitude had gears, we’d already be in top.
