Porsche 911, model T from 1973, Coupe (no sunroof), LHD, Dry Weight: ~990kg. Imported from the U.S. end of April 2019 and later UK road registered in February 2022.
Fun fact: Bought sight-unseen from Alexander Doerstling in Pennsylvania via Craigslist after a friend's tip-off. This $20,000 deal was always too good to be true - a race prepared 911 that the seller had acquired through an airplane trade—he'd never himself had it on track, and runs had been limited to what the landing strip could support!
Delivered straight to Porsche Centre Byfleet by AZtek Intl Freight Ltd, the car’s condition shocked the team. A cut-out firewall, perished fuel and oil lines, collapsed fuel foam, non-existent electrics, and deafening straight-pipe exhausts were only part of the story. Thankfully, a quick compression test gave hope that at least the engine was sound—and so began the journey to recommission the car back onto the tracks where it belonged.
Limited Slip Differential Installation
The gearbox surprisingly lacked a Limited-Slip Differential (LSD) - a prerequisite for any serious track use. With the Porsche original ZF clutch-type LSD option long out of production, a more modern Wavetrac ATB unit was sourced from Patrick Motorsports in the U.S. This was expertly installed by Allan together with a strengthened 915 Transmission Side Cover, also from Patrick Motorsports, that increases load integrity by using the larger left side 930 Turbo bearing.
The Wavetrac Differential was chosen as it's the only torque biasing differential on the market that mitigates wheelspin when an unloaded wheel condition arises. During zero axle load conditions, the Wavetrac cam device acts to create internal load, maintaining drive on the gripping wheel instead of acting like an open diff (and going nowhere!)
Custom Fuel System
A bespoke unit by Pro Alloy Motorsport featured an anti-surge chamber, 450 L/hr Walbro pump, methanol/water tank integration, and all motorsport-spec fittings—ensuring fuel delivery met modern racing demands.
New Stainless Exhaust System
Replacing the insanely loud U.S. straight through pipes with Dansk headers, custom connection tubes, and a stainless steel Dansk sport muffler, with the dual 70mm outlets retaining a race-ready look and sound whilst staying (just!) inside the UK noise limits of 105dB for GT track cars.
First UK Track Day
Tim and Allan @ Porsche Centre Byfleet delivered. After 3 months of intense work, the 911 was day-time MOT certified and track-day legal. Its debut came at the legendary Silverstone circuit on 8th August 2019, marking the beginning of its next chapter on British soil.
